Prologue is an independent bookshop at Weir Mill in Stockport, complete with a bar, speciality coffee shop and dedicated event space. A new concept for the North, in a huge, dedicated unit, Prologue is fast becoming the go-to destination for book lovers, coffee drinkers and culture seekers across the region.

Books are at the heart of everything we do, and the whole floor is our bookshop. We don’t always have a bookselling vacancy open, but we’re always keen to hear from readers who’d love to help other people find their next favourite book.

• Welcome customers and help them find their next read, whether they know exactly what they want or are just browsing
• Recommend and hand-sell books you love, from new releases to backlist favourites
• Keep the shelves, tables and displays well stocked, tidy and inviting
• Receive deliveries, process stock and help with returns
• Take customer orders and keep customers updated when they arrive
• Serve customers at the till and on the floor using our point-of-sale system
• Help create window and in-store displays for new releases, events and the seasons
• Support our events programme, from author talks and launches to book clubs and signings
• Work alongside the café and bar teams to make the whole space feel welcoming

What we’re looking for

Bookshop or retail experience is a bonus but isn’t essential. We’re looking for someone who:

• Reads widely and loves talking about books
• Enjoys helping people and is happy on their feet all day
• Can work some weekends and evenings, including during busy periods like Christmas
